Please consider joining us for an environmental education summer institute for educators (and those preparing to be educators) in Belize July 6-14, 2013. ?The cost is about 2,500 (includes tuition as well as room and board at the famous Chaa Creek Resort!) plus airfare.
The program is designed for practicing teachers & administrators, as well as graduate students and upper level undergraduate teacher candidates. ?The U.S. team of teachers will work with Belizean educators for a week in July at the beautiful Chaa Creek Jungle resort (http://www.chaacreek.com/) to share curriculum ideas and lesson and learn and discuss environmental issues and local ecology. This year, like last year, the institute will focus on a literacy campaign, spearheaded by the U.S. Ambassador in Belize and his wife, designed around ?Pat the Cat: A Jaguar?s Journey?. This bilingual book, co-written by children from Belize and Milwaukee, WI about Pat a ?problem? Belizean jaguar. The Ambassador?s wife, ?Barbara Thummalapally , as well as the author of the book, Nancy Kennedy, are expected to participate in the institute as well. Please ?check out an article just published in M magazine about the ??Pat the Cat? literacy campaign on pages 80-82 ?http://www.
Please go to the SUNY Cortand website for the fees, schedule, information about the faculty leaders and the lodging at Chaa Creek as well as application forms. Applying is easy, just a one page application form and a professional reference. ?The application and reference form is also available on the website. http://www2.cortland.edu/
