MSJC: Grand opening of Humanities & Social Sciences building ...

Join Mt. San Jacinto College, alumni, students and the community at the grand opening of MSJC?s new Humanities & Social Sciences building. The grand opening and a host of other events will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. on the Menifee Valley Campus.

The grand opening is a free event that includes student-guided tours of the new building.

The MSJC Foundation?s Sunset Jazz & Wine Fest will be held on campus that same evening. It kicks off MSJC?s 50th anniversary celebrations and is the first event of the academic year designed to raise scholarship funds for students, provide faculty mini grants and support college programs. Tickets to the event are $40 each or $75 for two.

The Fest includes wine tasting, food and live music by MSJC?s Menifee Jazz Ensemble. Local artists and art students will display and sell art during the event. Call the Foundation at 951-487-3171 or order tickets online at www.msjc.edu/jazzfest

MSJC Ceramics will hold an Open House and Kiln Dedication in Room 607 (Ceramics Lab) on the Menifee Valley Campus as part of the events. You will find ceramicists at work, ceramic art for sale, and light snacks. Visitors are welcome to look on the patio to admire the new Geil car kiln, which will ?serve the department for decades to come. This event is open to everyone. In addition, a team of MSJC Multimedia Department students and instructors called the 50th Anniversary Project will film the grand opening ceremonies.

The team is encouraging the community to get involved in the film and support Mt. San Jacinto College at the ribbon cutting ceremony. The documentary will premiere as a short film at the annual MSJC Foundation Gala on February 9, 2013 at Pechanga Resort and Casino.

The Humanities & Social Sciences Building on the Menifee Valley Campus is 100 percent state funded. The project is on-time and under budget. For more information about the building, visit www.msjc.edu/MVCbuilding1.
