Possible tornado causes storm damage

COVENTRY, Conn. (WTNH)-- They are cleaning up in the north eastern part of the state, after some strong thunderstorms and a possible tornado roared through Wednesday afternoon.

A massive tree toppled on to Loehr Road in Tolland, blocking the way for drivers, and knocking power out.

"Our windows were up and then the lamps fell down, and then we walked down here and there was a scary tree down," said Taylor Thornton, Tolland resident.

The storm swept through northeastern Connecticut, Wednesday afternoon. There were several scenes like on Mountain Spring Road in Tolland, of cars maneuvering around tree trimmings.

Over on Bunker Hill Road in Coventry, the storm lifted a tree from its roots.

"You can see from behind the trees that this thing was circulating hard," said Mark Rittlinger, Coventry resident.

Though there are branches and leaves to clear, no major injuries were reported Wednesday night. This allowed some residents to take a moment and marvel at mother nature.

"I've never seen a funnel cloud come out," said Rittlinger. "It was kind of cool."
